Supervision
A space to think, reflect and keep growing in your practice
I'm an accredited BACP counsellor and supervisor, offering supervisee-led supervision to trainee counsellors, qualified counsellors, and practitioners in other helping roles.
Good supervision is more than a requirement. It's where the work gets held, questioned and deepened. My aim is to offer a setting that is supportive, honest and respectful of where you are in your work.
What supervision with me looks like
My supervision is supervisee-led and grounded in the person-centred experiential approach. I trained specifically as a supervisor in PCE-CfD (Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression), and the same principles shape how I work with everyone, whatever their role. You bring what matters most to you, and we use the time to explore it together.
A safe space to explore. I aim to offer the qualities I'd hope you offer your own clients: empathy, warmth and genuine acceptance. You can bring anything, including uncertainty, doubt or the things you'd rather not admit, without feeling judged.
Your experience is the focus. I'm less interested in fixing problems than in understanding what your work is like for you. We'll spend time on your experience of your clients and what the work stirs up in you, including how it feels in the room and afterwards. Often clarity comes through that exploration, without anyone needing to tell you what to do.
Attention to our relationship. The supervisory relationship matters. I'll pay attention to how it feels between us and check in on whether the supervision is working for you.
Theory linked to practice. When it's helpful, we'll connect what you're experiencing to theory and to your own way of working, so that ideas are useful in the room and not just something you've read.
Your frame of reference. I'll seek to understand your work from your own perspective, and support you to work in your own way, whether you're a trainee finding your style or an experienced practitioner.
Together we can make space to:
Explore your client or service-user work and the questions it raises
Think through ethical dilemmas and professional boundaries
Look after your wellbeing and guard against burnout
Meet the requirements of your training course, professional body or organisation
Who I work with
Trainee counsellors, including those on placement who need supervision to meet course requirements. I'm happy to make sure the areas your course requires are covered alongside whatever you bring, and to liaise with your course tutor / complete placement paperwork.
Qualified counsellors, in private practice or within organisations, who want a reflective space or a fresh perspective.
Practitioners outside counselling, such as volunteers, support workers and others whose work carries emotional demands, who want a confidential space to reflect and be supported. You don't need any counselling training to benefit from this way of working.
Experience and qualifications
I'm an accredited member of the BACP and hold a Diploma in PCE-CfD Supervision. I have experience of offering supervision to Home-Start volunteers for eight years, supporting people who work alongside families in often demanding circumstances. I'm also a practising counsellor, with experience of teaching and assessing trainee counsellors, so I understand the pressures and questions that come with training, early practice and long-term work alike.
