About Me

Hi, I’m Rachel Brown, an Accredited Counsellor and founder of Reflect & Be. I offer a warm, compassionate, and confidential space where you can explore whatever is on your mind — whether you’re feeling low, overwhelmed, stuck, or simply need someone to talk to.

My Journey into Counselling

My early career began in the NHS, where I helped patients feel heard by setting up and managing the Patient Advice and Liaison Service in Watford & Three Rivers. My role focused on ensuring people’s voices were listened to and their experiences valued — something that continues to underpin my work today.

Later, I worked as a self-employed childminder, supporting families as they navigated the everyday challenges of balancing work, home life, and parenting.

I then joined Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers as a Volunteer Coordinator, where for eight years I had the privilege of meeting families in their homes and hearing their stories. I supported families experiencing:

  • Isolation and loneliness

  • Postnatal depression and adjustment to life with a new baby

  • Relationship challenges and domestic abuse

  • Financial pressures and housing concerns

  • Disabilities, autism, ADHD, and long-term health conditions

  • Bereavement and loss

These experiences deepened my understanding of how life’s pressures can affect emotional wellbeing — and inspired me to train as a counsellor.

My Qualifications & Approach

I began my counselling training in 2011 and qualified as an Integrative Counsellor in 2016. My integrative approach means I draw on a range of therapeutic models, tailoring the way we work together to suit your unique needs.

In 2022, I became a counsellor with The Counselling Foundation, working as part of the NHS Talking Therapies service. In 2023, I completed specialist training in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) — an evidence-based approach proven to support people living with depression and low mood.

Alongside my counselling practice, I now work as an Assessor for the Metanoia Institute, supporting trainees on the PCE-CfD programme, and as a Training Tutor at The Counselling Foundation, helping trainee counsellors develop their skills.

Why I Do This Work

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside people from many different backgrounds, ages, and walks of life — each with their own story and challenges. What I’ve learned is that everyone deserves to feel heard, valued, and supported.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, loss, or major life changes, I’m here to walk alongside you as you make sense of what you’re going through and move towards a place of greater understanding and balance.
